Oak Bark, White
|
Common Names: White Oak. Properties and Uses: Astringent, tonic. The infusion is used for douching, enema for hemorrhoids and other rectal ailments. Also for menstrual ailments, blood in the urine, internally and externally at the same time for varicose veins, internally to stop bleeding, reduce fever, as a gargle for mouth and throat ailments, and as a wash for sores and skin ailments. |
Oats

Common Names: Oats. |
Olive
|
Properties and Uses: The leaves are antiseptic, astringent, febrifuge, tranquilizer. The oil is cholagogue, demulcent, emollient, laxative. The decoction made from the leaves or the inner bark is used for fever. The infusion of the leaves is used for a tranquilizer. The olive oil is used to increase bile secretion and a mild laxative, to soothe the mucous membranes and dissolve cholesterol; used externally for burns, bites, bruises, sprains and pruritus (intense itching; mixed with rosemary oil and alcohol it is used as a hair tonic to treat dandruff. |
Onion
|
Onion is one of the most versatile culinary gifts we have as it can be used in just about anything except sweets. Especially good in soups, stews, salads, eggs, fish, poultry grains, and vegetables. Stores well for great lengths of time. Properties and Uses: Anthelmintic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, diuretic, expectorant, stomachic, tonic. The juice is used to remove excess water and mucous from the body, to stop putrefaction and fermentation in the intestines, to strengthen the heart, lower blood pressure, restore sexual potency, relieve gas pains and heartburn. Mixed with honey it is used for coughs, and hoarseness. Externally, it is used to apply to suppurating wounds. |
Orange

Properties and Uses: Antihistamine, carminative, stimulant, stomachic, tonic. The dried and powdered rind is used for asthma, bronchitis, allergies, and dyspepsia. The oil from the rind is used for flatulence, and chronic bronchitis. The infusion of the dried flowers is used as a mild nerve stimulant. |
Oregon Grape Root
|
Used as a blood purifier which is beneficial to skin conditions such as acne, eczema, herpes, and psoriasis. Also used for constipation, chronic liver malfunction and rheumatism.

Orris Root |
Properties and Uses: Diuretic, stomachic. Used as a diuretic for dropsy, bronchitis, coughs, sore throat, colic and for a congested liver. |
Osha Root
|
Common Names: Colorado Cough Root, Porter's Lovage. Has a camphor and celery aroma used to dilate the bronchial tubes and as an expectorant and anti-viral agent which is used for respiratory infections, flu, colds, dryness, and sore throat. It is a strong diaphoretic. |
