Damiana  

Turnera diffusa var. aphrodisiaca

 

 

 

 

 

Properties and Uses:  Anti-depressant, mild purgative, stomachic, said to be Aphrodisiac.

Damiana has been used for thousands of years in Latin American cultures ritualistically as a sexual stimulant.   Damiana has been found to increase blood flow to the areas of the penis and vagina which facilitates arousal.    It combats depression, anxiety, nervousness, and promotes a general feeling of well-being.   It raises energy levels by stimulating circulation, and is used for fatigue, relieving menstrual headache, and weight loss for that reason.   It is also used as a mild laxative, and to thin fluids needed to be expelled in asthma, flu and colds


Dandelion

Taraxacum officinale

 

 

 

 

Common Names: Blowball, Cankerwort, Floating Fairys, Lion's Tooth, Priest's Crown, Puffball, Swine Snout, White Endive, Wild Endive.

Properties and Uses: Aperient, cholagogue, diuretic, stomachic, tonic.   Promotes the formation of bile and removes excess water from the body where the liver is malfunctioning.   It removes poisons from the body, acts as a tonic and stimulant.   The tea is used for dyspepsia, constipation, fever, insomnia, gallstones, jaundice and other liver ailments, chronic rheumatism, gout, stiff joints, and for those recovering from alcoholism.

 Deer's Tongue

Trilisa odoratissima

 

Common Names: Vanilla Leaf, Wild Vanilla.

Properties and Uses: Demulcent, febrifuge, diaphoretic.

Used for sore throat, worms, and  gonorrhea.


 Devil's Claw Tuber

Harpagophytum procumbens

 

 

 

Properties and Uses: Anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, analgesic, sedative diuretic.

This herbs has been well-known and used in Africa and Europe for hundreds of years to nourish the skeletal system due to it similar action to cortisone.   It helps the body naturally to ease severe pain in the joints and connective tissues.   Its diuretic and other properties make it useful for reducing cholesterol, gout, fibrositis, and lumbago.


Devil's Club Root Bark

Oplopanax horridus

Used by the North American Native Americans for cancer.   It is used as a pancreatic tonic, to regulate blood sugar, so is beneficial in both hypoglycemia and diabetes.    Helps to build and increase endurance, and purify the blood.

 

 

 


Dill

Anethum graveolens 

 

 

Common Names: Dilly, Garden Dill.

Properties and Uses: Antispasmodic, calmative, carminative, diuretic, galactagogue, stomachic.   Used for upset stomach, stimulates the appetite, insomnia, and pains from flatulence.   It will promote the flow of milk safely in nursing mothers and help baby if colicky at the same time.   The seeds are chewed for halitosis.


 Dong Quai Root

Angelica sinensis

 

 

This is used as an all-purpose woman's tonic herb to regulate the menstrual cycle, as an antispasmodic for menstrual cramps, to prevent spasms, reduce blood clotting, balance estrogen in the body, combat stress in PMS, encourage normal menstruation after childbirth, and stimulate the uterus during childbirth.   It is also used by both women and men as a blood tonic purify the blood, help prevent iron deficiency and anemia, regulate blood sugar levels in hypoglycemia and diabetes, relieve stress and calm nerves, migraine headaches, and lower blood pressure
